Welcome to Coundon’s web site
Coundon Primary is a large Primary school with a large nursery situated in a well established suburb of Coventry. The infant and junior schools occupied the same site until amalgamation in 1993. Originally the old junior school was built in 1937 and survived the Coventry Blitz! The Infant school was built circa 1955. Both of these buildings were demolished to make way for our new 2.6 million pound rebuild.
The new school was built in two phases, phase one completed in February 2002. Phase two was completed in April 2004. We are very proud of our new school and all the new technological equipment inside. Every classroom has interactive whiteboard capability and the school has a suite of 50 computers all linked to the internet by high speed broadband connection.
Two new sports halls and a new football pitch have made the outside facilities as good as inside! A 32 thousand pound outdoor play area for the school was added as the school officially opened.
Our academic standing has not been overlooked either, with results continually rising since 1996, we are in the top 25% of schools nationally. An achievement we are all proud of. The reason for our success is the school’s dedicated and committed team of teachers and support staff, working together with Governors, parents and pupils to continually improve our learning environment. We hope you like our web pages and get a feel of our community spirit that runs through our school.
Thankyou.

Welcome to Coundon Primary School and thank you for taking time to look at our school website.
We are extremely proud of our school, children and staff and the pages reflect our commitment towards developing the 'whole child' in a nurturing environment where pupils are given the opportunity to shine and grow!
From the Chair of Governors, David Hooley,
Greetings.
A school the size of ours is entitled to a total of 18 governors. We represent the larger community by generally keeping an eye on, managing, and supporting your school. We interview and appoint staff; we supervise the finances, the curriculum, and the buildings, our sole aim being to provide the best possible education for our children.
Six governors are elected by the parents, and three by the teaching and support staff, four are appointed by the City Council, and these thirteen elect four more governors from the local community. Kevin Snow makes up the final eighteenth by virtue of his office as Head teacher.
We meet twice a term, once for a full meeting, and once as members of one of the two committees, Resources and Management, and Performance and Standards. We may also join an ad-hoc sub-committee or working party set up to deal with issues such as school dinners or art. A non-teaching governor will liaise with a particular class and classroom teacher, and keep an eye on two subject areas (for example Science, Special Needs or Music.)
For those of us with a sense of community, being a governor can be a rewarding experience – unpaid, of course, but I wouldn’t have it otherwise.
