PE and Sports

Welcome to the section of our web site, dedicated to PE and School Sport here at Coundon Primary!

You will find all sorts of information whether it be about the PE we do in school, or after-school sports clubs or sports festivals.

All of our teams play friendly or competitive matches against other schools, so being a member of a club gives you the opportunity to represent your school in your favourite sport. We also have links with sports clubs around the city for those children who want to continue playing outside school hours.
Godiva Kids
Coundon Primary are proud to have links with the Coventry Godiva Harriers Athletics Club who have produced Commonwealth, World and Olympic champions such as Dave Moorcroft, Lorraine Baker and Marlon Devonish.
The club runs a section for its junior members called 'Godiva Kids' and Miss Bradford and Mr P are involved in the coaching which takes place at Lyng Hall School in Coventry. If you would like to get started in athletics, ask them for details!

Cycling
Cycling is our newest subject to be included in our PE curriculum here at Coundon. Our lessons are based on British Cycling's 'Go Ride' programme and the national 'Bikeability' programme.
We do not teach you to ride a bike during these lessons, but concentrate on developing the skills and techniques you need to ride your bike safely and confidently. We also do activities where you will learn some of the skills from a variety of cycle events such as BMX, track cycling and cyclo-cross. Hopefully, by the time you reach Year 6, you'll have learnt to ride safely enough to be riding with us out on the roads around school.
At the moment, we have worked with children in Years 5&6, but it will soon be the turn of Year 4 children to have a go. If you cannot ride a bike yet, ask your adult at home to help you, so you are ready to join in the fun at school!

Swimming
All children from Year 3 to Year 5 get the opportunity to swim as part of their PE lessons in school. Our lessons take place in the superb swimming pool at the 'Xcel' Leisure Centre in Canley, Coventry - they can even raise or lower the floor of the pool to make the water shallow or deep!
Keep an eye out for the letters telling your class when it is their turn to swim this year.
